Why is my Internet slower than it says it is?

The Internet we're paying for is suppose to be 5mb/s download and 1mb/s upload, when I speed test it says about that image. When I download a game on steam or a file of the Internet it actually downloads at about 512kb/s (highest about 800kb/s; lowest about 200-300 kb/s but its usually constant at 512kb/s), its not the router because we have a computer plugged directly into the wall and it does the same thing. Why does this happen and how can I fix it? Also I have Verizon, not sure if that helps.

Try relocating your router or your pc
You can also try playing the game or download it from another location.
you can click the icon on your task bar where your router icon is and see what it's status is, furthermore you can run a test on the router to make sure it is operating properly and has the latest applicable driver installed.

Downloading servers (servers that download files to you) run at a speed set by the server, not by your Internet connection. It is often that downloading servers are throttled back markedly from a very fast Internet connection's ability to transfer data. Further, as a downloading server's demand for downloads go up, the average download speed goes down.

Your problem is the speed of the download server - something you do not control.

You need to optimize browsers and internet connection.
First of all update the browser
Update Display drivers
Remove unwanted tool-bars and plug-ins
Optimize Internet
If you are unable to perform above tasks then use a single utility tool like Reginout that will optimize your Internet. And clean your System with corrupt registry errors

  • Why is texting slower than snap insta kik etc I've found time and time again when trying to text or send pictures sending it through text is significantly slower than almost every other messenger app. Facebook, insta, snap, kik all of them are leagues faster at sending pictures than the basic text feature on my iphone. Why is this? I don't keep old conversations long. Yet it takes almost 5 mins to send a pic of a screenshot on text and it takes 5 seconds on anything else.

I have a 4G iPhone 5 that I just got today but my iPhones Wi-Fi is slower in my house rather than outside of my house such as a restaurant or a store. Also my house has Wi-Fi for my laptop and other devices in my house. Any idea why this is? The connection isn't terribly slow buts its noticeably slower.
