Why is there a red light on my iPhone 5c?

There's a tiny red light on my iPhone 5c near the earpiece and front camera. Why and what is it?

Spies are watching and recording you. Oh wait, no, that's simply the proximity sensor that detects when you have your ear to the earpiece.

That's not a light. That's one of the sensors & it is reflected in light which is why it may look like a light, but again it is not. Could be the ambient light sensor which is what auto dims the display or it could be the proximity sensor which is what turns the display off when using the phone feature.

So i didn't notice till today that there's a red dot next to the front speaker under the camera on my 5s i've never seen it until today, i couldnt help but notice that when i don't touch the screen the light gets dim but when i do touch it the light, lights up again. I've read some reviews & some have said it shouldnt be able to be seen with the naked eye. Any help on what this little red dot is?

I was going to watch a video on YouTube and almost dropped my phone and I may have clicked on something and then when I looked at my phone their was a banner at the top of my screen and I can't take it off When I click on it it takes me to my YouTube app but i don't know what's going on?
