Why won't Sony Vegas Pro 8 work?

Ok. I synced the videos off of my iPhone 4 onto my computer which is a SamSung Windows 7. I don't have a camera like most people like the HD cameras. I'm saving up though. But when I add the clip on Sony Vegas Pro 8 it's black why is that and can it be fixed?

Glenna:

Thanks for the updated details in this version of your original Question (you could have just updated the first post, BTW).

Your Apple iPhone 4 makes videos using Apple's Quicktime "MOV H.264" HD codec (a compression format). Your Sony Vegas Pro 8 is an older version (but a well-made one), so you might need to update your Samsung PC's version of Quicktime 7 for Windows (free) or even buy the Quicktime Pro version ($29.95 update from Apple's online store) to get the proper Quicktime codec to be able to edit or convert your iPhone clips for Vegas Pro 8 to be able to edit them.

The dead-giveaway that you have a "missing codec" problem when playing or editing a video is when you hear the sound but get a blank/black screen.

If you have a friend or family member with a Mac computer, you can use iMovie or Final Cut Pro to handle your movies, or you can upload them to YouTube with your PC or iPhone, and then use YouTube's simple online editor to trim & modify your clips (and even add music).

Otherwise, look into spending $30 for Quicktime Pro 7 for Windows, and that will hopefully fix your Sony Vegas problem: http://store.apple.com/...or-windows

There are a few good "actually free" video transcoders (edit-speak for "converters"), like HandBrake and MPEG Streamclip, but that involves a separate transcoding process with each video clip. (Don't waste any time or money on other so-called "free video converters" -- they're usually a rip-off with crippled features until you "pay up".) Fixing the "missing codec" by have the correct version of Quicktime installed on your PC will make things go faster.

hope this helps,

  • Why won't my 3 sim work in my Sony Ericsson mobile? Right now I have an 02 pay as you go sim in my unlocked Sony Ericsson phone it works fine. I've put in my 3 contract sim in and it comes up on the screen "invalid sim". I'm using a very old phone as mine was stolen. From looking at the sims, 02s has a large chip and 3s is quite small so maybe the phone can't read it? If that's the reason can I request a larger chip from 3? This is second sim I've requested from them after they stupidly sent me an iPhone one.
  • Which Camera to Buy: Sony WX350 or Sony WX220? I'm looking to purchase a camera for my upcoming vacation. I currently use my iPhone 6 to take all my photos and want something a little better. I have done some research and it seems like Sony makes pretty good cameras. The most important factors to me are image quality and price. I'm looking to spend $220 max. Please let me know which of the two you would recommend, unless you there's something else better.
  • Sony Vegas: Audio but no video from iPhone? I recorded multiple clips from my iPhone 4s and imported them, edited them and completed my movie although when I render the video into any format it only plays my title and maybe the first clip (only in quicktime) and then the rest of the film is in black with only audio playing in the background. What can I do to render it and play it completely? I'm currently using Sony Vegas 12.
