Wi-Fi now only works with an Ethernet cable

So I have a Samsung laptop with windows 8.it has always had great Wi-Fi connection. But all of a sudden recently while I was on my laptop, the Wi-Fi suddenly stopped. I looked down to where the Wi-Fi symbol usually is only to find that it had changed into something I have never seen before.instead of being shown as bars indicating my signal, it instead looks like a screen with a cord coming out the side. No matter what I try, it always says "no connections available" and my wireless router never shows up. I have checked everyone else's laptop, ipad, ipod, iphone, EVERYTHING in the house, and there devices still work just fine like normal. I'm the only one having problems, so it must be my laptop, not the router. The only way for me to get internet on my laptop now is to be plugged in with an Ethernet cable all the time. How can I fix this?

Some laptops have a switch or a key combination that turns Wi-Fi on/off. Make sure it's turned on. Look for a little symbol that looks like the Wi-Fi icon on a phone.

I think it has been disable… Try enabling it again.
make sure the wi-fi card has not been disable first.

Make sure your Wi-Fi connection is turned on. The switch or button. Most usually have the button in the middle right below the screen and above the keyboard. If that doesn't work, then just try restarting your laptop. Many times that will fix it.

Apparently seems like your W-LAN card is either disabled from your network connections or may be there's some hard switch which turned off. All you need to go open network and sharing center then click view network connection to make sure that you Wireless connection is not disabled in any case it should have to be enabled.

Other way is to check on your keyboard from top F1 to F12 keys if you can see a Antenna sign on any of key then press that key by pressing Fn key together.

If the problem still persist then I would recommend you to go on your manufacturer's website to download the latest driver and update your driver.

  • Share ethernet connection to iphone with no Wi-Fi? I'm in my dorm room at school and I don't have a Wi-Fi connection to my laptop, I have it plugged in to an ethernet cable and have tried sharing that connection to my iphone but it usually only works if my laptop also has a Wi-Fi signal. I was wondering if there was anyway to get Wi-Fi on my phone when I don't have Wi-Fi on my laptop, either through ethernet or bluetooth or whatever.
  • My ethernet connection is lower than my Wi-Fi? I have a HP pavilion dv6000 and recently i bought a new internet plan of max speed of 120Mbps but when i connect the ethernet cable from my modem the speed is (speedtest.net) around 5 mb also on Wi-Fi i get 20 mbs. I tested the Wi-Fi speed on my iPhone 4 s and i got around 60 mbs. I'm running windows 8 Pro. The modem is Technicolor TC7200
