Wi-Fi Significantly slower than my ethernet?
Recently, my internet was encountering some problems.
The charter dude came over, took my modem(which gave off Wi-Fi) and replaced
it with another modem, which does not give out Wi-Fi, and it only has one ethernet port.(what a dick)
So I hooked up my own router.(Linksys wireless B 2. GHZ 802.11b)
I'm not sure if it is good, a friend gave it to me
So I connected the modem to that directly, then connected my computer to the router.
I speedtested my computer via ethernet, and it gets 25mb down, (I pay for 30, but whatevs)
THEN, I speedtested it using my iphone, and from five feet away, at three bars, my phone is picking up only about 3 megs down. And 3 megs up.(equal up and down speed, weird?)
Before you say that Wi-Fi is slower, I used to get at least 20 megs down on my iphone(speedtest)
Is it the router? Is there something I need to set up? The modem is new, which router do you recommend?
why is that charter guy such a douche?
Ethernet is (generally) faster than Wi-Fi. In your case, this is the case.
802.11b is a very outdated format. While B has a solid range, it doesn't have that good of speed (11 Mbps). Most internet provides provide anywhere from 5-50Mbps internet. I think the average in the US right now is sitting around 12-20Mbps residential. Wireless B can't keep up with your internet, hence where your issues arise.
I would suggest picking up a Wireless G or Wireless N router from the local retailer. They generally are not too expensive and you should see a vastly improved speed.
You're using an ancient 'b' router.
Use something like G or N and you'll notice more performance.
Also, the wired 25 mbit test is likely CPU limited by that router as well. You'll likely get up/over 30 once you start using something more modern.
Linksys is right choice that for sure… Linksys is actually branded by CISCO which are best in networking. Slower speed is might becuz of more traffic with your ISP (internet service provider).
let me tell you speedtest.com will show you the sky speed which your ISP providing. Speed always divided by 8. That means if your ISP say you have 25 mbps that means you will get 25/8 = 3.125 Mbps apx…
If your Wi-Fi is slower that you Ethernet you must check that your Wi-Fi speed must be 150 Mbps to 300 Mbps at least.weak routers don't have this Wi-Fi speed and don't strong processor in router to handle Wi-Fi requests.
- Would the price of the iPhone 5s decrease significantly after the release of the iPhone 6? I've liked the look of the iPhone 5s since if what first released. It looks great and it's the perfect size for me. But it's just so expensive! How much would it be when the iPhone 6 comes out?
- Will the iPhone 5 be significantly more expensive than the iPhone 4S? Basically, will the pricing for a new iPhone 5 be the same compared to the current iPhone 4S? Or do you think it will be more than the price of the iPhone 4S now? I'm contemplating just waiting for the iPhone 5 to buy a new phone but if it's going to be significantly more expensive than the iPhone 4S then I don't know if it is worth it.
- Why is texting slower than snap insta kik etc I've found time and time again when trying to text or send pictures sending it through text is significantly slower than almost every other messenger app. Facebook, insta, snap, kik all of them are leagues faster at sending pictures than the basic text feature on my iphone. Why is this? I don't keep old conversations long. Yet it takes almost 5 mins to send a pic of a screenshot on text and it takes 5 seconds on anything else.
- Why is my Internet slower than usual? I use xfinity Internet and out of the blue my phone gets a tad bit slower is it the modem or my phone? I tried disconnecting reconnecting unplugging Internet and plugging back in I'm on 3G iPhone 4
