Will Apple know if my iPhone has been tampered with?

Ok, so the other day I had my phone sitting on my bed and i was standing on my bed to hang something up onto the wall and I stepped on my phone and it shattered. I sware that is exactly what happened. So, I called up a repair service and he had a replacement front screen for my iPhone 4s. I took the phone into him and came back an hour later. He told us that the screen had gone black and would not light up because of where i had cracked it. The phone it self worked fine, it was just the screen that would not light up. The guy replaced the screen and told me to call Apple and DO NOT tell them it's been tampered with, just to say that the screen stopped working. So that's exactly what I did. They had me send in my phone by mail and they will receive it this monday. Is Apple going to know that I've had my screen replaced or even my phone opened up? If so, will I be able to get a new one for $199? Anything will help!

If there's any remaining physical damage or if he replaced it with a screen other than the one apple includes on the phones they will know (and just so you know getting your phone fixed by anyone other than apple voids the warranty, so if they can tell someone fixed it they will charge you to fix it) and you'll only be able to get a phone at subsidized price if you have an insurance plan that covers accidental damage or if your contract is up for renewal
