Will my Wi-Fi router keep history of what i viewed on my PRIVATE BROWSER on my iphone?

Will my Wi-Fi router keep history of what i viewed on my PRIVATE BROWSER on my iphone?

No it keeps no records, it's a router, just a switch, not a computer

No, your isp logs all that. The router only logs incoming connections

It doesn't record anything. However, it can see the sites you are looking at (it has to so it knows which site to give you the information of).

I don't think Wi-Fi routers keep history of anything period.

However, your internet provider or work can see what you browse on private (don't worry, it doesn't show up on the bill)

NO. Routers DO NOT keep history or anything.

There are SOME routers that do indeed keep history of sites visited. Some ISP's may also make available your browsing history as a "parental control" or as a method of keeping track of usage. So MAYBE your system will keep history. Many routers these days have the ability to control what sites can be used. Many do supply the ABILITY to log or keep log files. Some users do keep logs, some don't have a clue that the ability is in the router. Even though you use a "private" window or browser, the router still has to send data to the site you requested thus it does know where you went. Your computer just doesn't keep the record. So yes it is possible to know where you browse.
Now whether anyone looks or concerns themselves is a totally different issue.

Yes (and no).
A router, if set up to do so, can log the IP addresses visited by anyone using the router. One would have to look up the IP address to see what site it belongs to. Anyone with computer "smarts" can also set up the router to send that log information to another logging computer via a "syslog server".
What the logs do NOT show, is what pages you visited, or what you typed in or downloaded. That is beyound most home routers abilities.
Private browser tabs only hide your web surfing from the PC, not the network…

To summarize, for a router to log things, it must:
1) Have logging enabled. By default, it is not on most routers
2) It can't have a power failure, as that will delete the logs. Router logs are only kept in ram, and any power outage will clear the ram.

Only if the router administrator has set up syslog in the router (most routers support this function), are the logs stored on another machine, which you can't clear. But, even having the IP address of sites visited does not show your actual activity on that site…

Your ISP, for sure, has logs of ALL activity, including pages visited and/or downloads.

  • What is the purpose of Downloader/private browser? Assume I can't imagine what this iPhone application is used for. Why would a person use it, opposed to regular internet streaming or hulu/ netflix, etc.
  • What is the best free private web browser for the iPhone 4S? I need an app that is a web browser, like safari or chrome but is hidden away as another app like a calculator that's free. Do you know any apps like that? Apps that look like a calculator or any other thing when on the home screen but when you access it it still looks likes regular app until you put a secret password. And it has to be free. I found one that's paid: it's called Bcalculator. I need one that does exactly what that app does but it has to be free.
  • Safari Private Browsing History not Private? So I've got an iPhone 4 and recently found out that there's actually a way to view the history of your private tab. Is this true? If so, I wanted to know how to delete it.
  • Private browing - what does it mean web browser? What does private browing mean and how it works i usually come across this in some web browsers and also in my iphone safari settings - how is the privacy ensured with private browsing
