Will resetting iPhone from Settings menu clear the viruses?

I bought an iPhone second-hand. The previous owner claimed that it had a "virus". I know a virus on an iPhone is very unlikely, but considering I'm planning on using this iPhone to check my bank account, I want to make sure there are no viruses. I have Linux, and iTunes is not available for Linux, so I can't restore with iTunes. Would going to Settings and resetting it get rid of this "virus"?

When you buy an iPhone second hand it is reset to factory defaults, so there will be no virus.

It is highly unlikely that an iOS devices gets viruses. It would be likely if it were jailbroken, though. If the phone is jailbroken, you can't do the factory reset on the phone itself as it would result in a black screen with the Apple logo and must be restored with iTunes.

But more likely than not, there's no "virus" so a simple Erase all Content and Settings should be fine.

Resetting the phone from the settings menu should clear out any viruses that it has now you said you bought the phone second hand I hope the owner has gone online to his Apple account and marked your phone as sold because if he did not when you try to log back into your phone it's going to ask for his ID and password I certainly hope you did not accidentally Buy a stolen phone or a phone that the owner did not properly deregister on the Apple site but in answer to your question assuming that there's no problem with the login yes pushing the security reset should clear your phone up of any viruses

  • Why does my iphone 4s settings keep resetting? My phone is not jail broken. I reset my phone every night and sometimes when I reset it when it comes back on some of my settings are reset like my ring-tones, brightness settings and mail settings. One time when I did this it acted like it updated. It has the loading bar and my settings listed above were reset. I recently restored my phone and it keep doing it.
