Will the Iphone work with just Wi-Fi?

I want to get an Iphone 4 but i'm currently with t-mobile, i know the Att Iphone can work with T-mobile if its unlocked, but i would rather like to unlock it myself since its way cheaper. So my question is do i need to have service with Att to unlock it or can i use Wi-Fi to unlock it? And then put my T-mobile Sim in.

I unlocked my iPhone through Remote Unlocking Method. This method of unlocking was safe, simple and affordable. I got the remote unlocking for my iPhone from http://www.onlinegsmunlock.com/apple-iphone-4/rs7wp9/ at best deal.
Here are the steps for unlocking an iPhone4,
1. Wait for to send you an email saying your phone has been activated or remotely unlocked.
2. Install the latest version of iTunes.
3. Make sure your Apple iPhone 4 phone software is updated to the latest version using the iTunes software.
4. Connect your Apple iPhone 4 to iTunes with a NOT ACCEPTED SIM card.
5. Wait until iTunes detects your Apple iPhone 4.
6. Disconnect your Apple iPhone 4 and reconnect it after 10 seconds.
7. Your Apple iPhone 4 is now unlocked.

  • Will my iphone work with just putting in a SIM card? My old phone was turning off all the time and my mom had an old iphone 3 that she doesn't use anymore. I took her iphone and put my SIM card into it. I then plugged it into the computer and registered it with itunes. Will this charge my AT&T bill? I don't want to pay for data yet? I didn't activate it through AT&T, but now I'm kind of worried it will. Will the phone work okay without calling AT&T to activate it?

Its verizon and i just want to use it to play games take pictures like an ipod but i don't want a data plan will it charge to their account when i use the phone & will it work as an ipod without a data plan?
