Would it be crazy to go back to a basic phone?

I feel like smartphones have ruined us. I've disconnected from social media and can no longer access my accounts, however I feel like it still isn't enough. I'm still addicted to my iPhone.
Would it be nuts for somebody in their early 20's to ditch smartphones and go back to a basic one with standard features like text and call?

There's a company that will pay you $1000 if you can go for a month without a smart phone (you can still use a clam shell phone that only lets you make calls and text). The catch is that it wants people with a huge media following so it's very unlikely that anyone that qualifies will take up the challenge. People with lots of followers make thousands in a month so why would they trade it in for less money and lose their followers.

Some people are trying to do just that but most people are not because of the convenience of smart phones. It makes life easier.

If that is all you needed and you didn't want to pay to use a smartphone, then I don't see how hit would be considered crazy, no matter the person's age. I know teens with flip phones and old grannies that text, facetime, skype and FB, Instagram, etc, longer and harder that any 20 something.

In the end a phone is just a tool, most people assume it's a instant communication device that gets them in contact with the person they wish to bother at that moment because their bored. They forget that others use them, as a way to get back to others, when they see fit, have the time, or not.

So get the phone and service you want/need. Don't worry about what others think of your choices. You can always get a smartphone again down the road.

It would be more sane than can be described.

  • What if I put a basic phone sim card to an unlocked iPhone? I have a basic phone which can only call (I pay about $10 a month for this). But now I have an unlocked iPhone 5s, which I use for music. So I thought, why not put the sim card in the iPhone so I don't have to carry 2 phones. I DON'T want to have to pay for data. So, if I put the "basic phone" sim card in the iPhone, will it automatically charge me for the monthly data? Like $40-80 a month? (AT&T)
  • What does it mean to be basic? Like a basic white girl? If someone was a "basic white girl" or "basic," what do they do, or how do they act?
  • Switching to a basic phone from an iPhone? Long story short, I broke my iPhone 5c. It was still under the 1 year warranty, so Apple is going to replace it. However, they didn't have any in stock at my local Apple Store, but they were going to get a shipment in 3-4 days. I still have an old basic flip phone, so would I be able to switch to that for the next 3 days and then switch back to my iPhone? Would my Verizon data plan affect this at all?
  • Switch my Verizon Basic phone to iPhone? Ok so I have an LG Cosmos through Verizon wireless. I really want an iPhone but they won't let me get one without the expensive Data Plan. My question is can I buy an iPhone online, and call the Verizon number and have them activate it with my number? Ya know like transfer my number to the new phone, to get around paying for the stupid plan. Using the iPhone kind of like an iPod that makes calls?
