How to get my iphone4 to show up in itunes?

About a week ago my iphone started to turn off randomly so i decided tto plug it into my computer to restore it but every time i do it doesn't show up in itunes. It will charge and open the itunes app on my computer but it won't show up under devices in itunes it also doesn't show up under "my computer"

Plug it in to the computer

Near the top right, is *should* identity a connection with your phone - this is NOT in the drop-down menu from the bar, that says *devices*. Are you certain you are looking in the right place? Near iTunes store, and the wishlist bars - it should appear just to the LEFT of that. Do you get a *ding* form your computer when the connection is made? You do also get a *ding* when you unplug it?

If this can't be done, then back up everything from your phone to the Cloud - plug the phone into the wall, and turn on the iCloud setting on your phone - as long as you are connected to Wi-Fi in your house (or anywhere) this w should back it up. THEN, after a decent wait, refresh your phone FORM YOUR PHONE. Yes, you run the risk of losing some things - but right now, your phone is a Lego - only works for a few things - anyway.

Have you shut off your phone recently - and then turned it back on after a wait time? Sometimes, that is all that is needed - strange, but true. Do you have OTHER things that iTunes recognizes - an mp3 player that *would* show up under *devices* - NOT where iPhones appear? Have you checked that your phone is running iO7 or higher? Have you had a more-knowledgeable friend try things ("Just gimme your phone!" sometimes is the best thing a friend can say!) When all else fails - GO to the place you got it - they can't put you on *hold* if you are standing there, looking serious. Good luck - we love these things and HATE then in equal proportion.
