How can I make a foreign sim card work on my iphone?
Many SIM cards will not provide a signal outside of their home country.
But if your SIM card will do that, then just get your iPhone unlocked and insert the SIM and you should be OK.
P.S. Some American and Asian iPhones don't use SIM cards. Others are global models that only use the SIM card when the phone is used outside its home country. On those phones, unlocking won't change any of this.
1. Remove the SIM card from your current phone by disconnecting the battery compartment door. Take out the battery and slide the SIM card from its slot. Insert the SIM card into a phone that uses the same network. Power on the phone by pressing the "Power" button for several seconds.
2. Unlock the phone if it is on a different network. Remove the battery compartment and battery. Write down the phone's IMEI code. The IMEI code is a unique identity code assigned to every cellphone. You need the code to obtain the device's unlock code. Replace the battery and battery compartment.
3. Dial "611" to reach the customer service line for the phone. Request the unlock code from the agent that takes you call. Be prepared to give the agent your IMEI code. Write down the unlock code that the agent gives you.
4. Purchase an unlock code from an online provider, if the provider is unable to give it to you. Be prepared to enter your email address to receive the code, along with your billing information and IMEI code.
5. Power on your device. Enter the unlock code when prompted to do so. Depending on your phone's model, the device may restart automatically or continue loading to the phone's home screen. Either way, the device will alert you if the phone was unlocked using the code you entered.
- Will out of contract Verizon iPhone4s work with foreign sim? I'm traveling to England for about two months and I would like to take a smartphone. However I have AT&T iPhone 4s and it is not out of contract therefore I can't get it unlocked and put in a SIM card from the UK. My friend has offered me her old iPhone 4s and she is with Verizon. I'm not familiar with Verizon at all so I'm not sure if I can slap a SIM card in there or if Verizon will unlock it if I call and get the codes like I could with AT&T.
