How to put my iPhone back to the way it was?

So I went to download the most recent system update (version 7.1.2) when it told me to plug it into iTunes. When I did, iTunes said that i had to restore my iPhone. I have about 20 pictures that i hadn't put on my computer yet so I didn't want to lose them. I unplugged my phone and turned it off but when I turned it back on it still told me to plug into the computer. Is there a way to get it back, or am I screwed?

Added (1). Please help! I have wedding photos and 4th of July photos that I Really don't want to lose.

Connect your iPhone as you would normally, to the Computer. Do not turn on the iTunes.
The computer should recognize the iPhone as a normal hard disk drive with some folders in it.
Check ( using windows) these folders within the phone. When you find the folder with the pics in it, save it onto the computer, in a Folder ( that you create and) named MyPhotos ( or any other name which is easy to remember).
Now disconnect the iPhone. Check whether the photos are OK and saved within the folder in the computer, as you wanted. Then, if you want, try and update the iPhone as you would do normally.
