How to take a picture of innovation?

For my Digital Photography class my teacher asked us to take a photo of innovation. Which basically means someone could look at it and be like oh yep that's innovation without even thinking too much about it. He showed us one example and it was an old dial phone that had the spinning wheel but instead of an actual telephone he replaced it with an iPhone (not sure if I explained that well enough). I've been trying to think of something but I always draw a blank and the due date is coming up please help! I just need some suggestions to go off of thanks.

Do you have any old cell phones/computers/gaming consoles/laptops/cameras. Take a photo of them lined up in order of age, next to your newest one.

The older you are the easier this question is to answer! Young people take for granted things that those of more mature years like me see as innovation.
I suggest you choose a modern appliance - computer, games console, TV, camera, motor vehicle. Then research how that was done 10, 20, 30, 40yrs ago.

Example - music player.
Early 20th century - wind-up gramophone 78 rpm records
Mid 20th century - electric gramophones with 33 rpm LPs
Late 20th century - CD's
Early 21st century - downloadable MP3 files and iPods.

Written communication:
Before ca 1990 - letter through the mail with a stamp
Late 20th Century - email, SMS, social media

Fountain pen, ink pot, paper next to a computer or smart phone/tablet.
