I got caught stealing at Walmart, what now?

I was with my mom and I needed a headphone adapter for my iPhone 5 lifeproof case. Those cases go up for just short of 80 dollars btw. But anyway I got the case, opened it up and took the adapter but then I said that this black case looked cool so I took it too. But as we were leaving the store some guys stopped us and said that we needed to come with them and we ended up at the security room. The guys took down moms information and he said that he asked an associate about my background and the associate said that I always save my money and by expensive things and all. But moving on, they said that they would give us a fine in the mail for up to 5 times the cost of the case because its over 75 bucks. What now?

Yo mama

You could either pay the fine, or take the honest approach and go back to the store. Apologize, and offer to work (x) amount of unpaid hours in order to make things right. This way, you won't have to pay the fine and you will have some experience of what it means to work.

Just thank God you don't live in India where your right hand would be cut off for your evil deed.

Face the consequences.

Don't listen to these other answers.

Listen, the "civil demand" is an attempt to scare you. DON'T PAY THEM!

Bringing your case to the police, and then following up in court, will be more trouble than it's worth for them… If you don't pay their civil demand, they will drop it.

They send out hundreds of those silly letters every year.

You should know better, they have cameras all over the ceiling- and people watching monitors
Esp over electronics… Thats the high theft area, that & liquor. Sounds like they didn't have any managers around, as the managers call the police always. Youre not going to jail, as they would do it right then
Just wait and see if anything comes in the mail first. It might not

That's extortion and blackmail. WalMart is circumventing the courts and seeking to profit from you personally.

Of course, that still doesn't exonerate you; you are still a thief and will be barred from WalMart. Not that I consider that a punishment.

You'll receive what is known as a civil demand letter, which will demand that you pay a civil fine, usually in exchange for not being prosecuted. If you don't pay up, they are likely to pursue criminal charges. All you can do now is await the letter's arrival. If you can afford it, you might also speak to an attorney to discuss your legal options.

Pay the fine or go to court. And let it be a lesson to you to never steal again. You keep doing stuff like that and it's really going to affect your life in the future.

  • What will happen if I got caught doing this? My phone contract had recently ended and can't get new upgrade as its v, expensive! So I have to stick with this broken iPhone for another year! However I feel angry that my mom won't let me upgrade and I really want to use my moms cards and details to secretly buy a new phone contract. So what will happen if they find out that this isn't me?
