I took off the back of my iPhone 4s, did I void the warranty?

Well, I replaced it with a cooler looking one, a transparent back. It looks sick. But I was now wondering if I voided the warranty. If I were to put the original cover on, how would you know the warranty is voided?

Yes you did. You are not supposed to open or remove parts from the device.

You did void it, but if you put the original cover on, they most likely wouldn't know. They don't really thoroughly inspect it though, so if a problem does come and you take it to apple, they'll just check for water damage inside the sensors.
