IPhone 5 water damage or loose connection?

I dropped my iPhone 5 down the toilet on a night out and was out for a fee hours after it got wet… The next day I put it in rice and left it like that for a few days as it had been left wet. The phone eventually come on but the screen was playing up. I ordered a new screen and replaced it my self. The screen works fine on a low brightness but will eventually go black, if the brightness is turned up the screen flickers quite bad.

The phone works fine but the screen goes black and will come on now and again. Would this be due to water damage or the fact I have a loose connection from putting it back together my self?

Also the front flash on snap chat doesn't work anymore if that means anything to anyone.

The answer is most likely down to water. To try and maximise the chance of your device working properly, follow these steps:

1) Open up the device using the kit you used to replace the screen.

2) Get a hairdryer and move it in quick motions across the device on a WARM BUT NOT HOT setting. DO NOT heat for more than 20 sec.

3) Leave on a bed of dry rice for 1 hour to cool.

4) Repeat another 3/4 times, ensuring that the device only gets warm NOT HOT.

5) Charge to 50% and keep in a bag of rice all day and all night for a few days.

Best of luck,
James

  • Will my iPhone still work after water damage? It fell into a bucket of water last night and I can't turn the phone off because the screen is black. I can hear the phone ringing and vibrating, but can't see anything. I put it in a bowl of rice, is this fixable? Will the screen eventually work?
  • Rubber over my silence button on my lifeproof case is loose, is it still water proof? So it's served me well all this time ( I have the iPhone 5c) one day I was silencing it and the rubber above the switch came loose and underneath I can see sort of a black switch cover and the rubber is pealing, is it still water proof (I'm sure not) but how can I redeem any sort of warranty I can redeem (it's been about 3 months since I got it) and if so how do I redeem it? Real help is appreciated, not assumptions thank you!
  • My iPhone 4 suffered heavy water damage, will it be okay? I went in the pool with it not realizing it was in my pocket. I was in the pool for about 5-10 minutes before I realized it was in my pocket. It was on when I went in the pool but was off when I got out. I now have it sitting in a bowl of rice and I plan on leaving it in there for a week, changing the rice it's in every 24 hours. Does anyone have any insight on this, like if there's any hope of it being okay or is it done for?
  • Iphone water indicators not pink, still possible water damage? Hypothetically, if you got your iphone 4s wet, but the water indicators are not triggered at all, is it still possible the phone has water damage on the inside that apple would find if they took it apart?
