My Bank won't let me do a chargeback on my Visa Debit Card?
I bought a phone on craigslist for £70 for a iphone 4s 32gb and I did a bank transfer however the seller isn't responding after I have sent them the payment.
I went to my bank and asked to do a chargeback but they said they can't do a chargeback
Why can't they? How can I make my bank do a chargeback on my card?
It's not a credit card. You CHOSE to send the loot, the bank has NO liability. You'll have to eat the loss unless you can sue, win and collect. GL.
A debit card is essentially the same as a check. If you write a check and the recipient deposits it, and it is deducted from your account, the bank can do nothing to help you from that point UNLESS you assert that the intended recipient did not deposit that check. You can't stop payment or have a check returned for any other reason. Buyer's remorse and undelivered products do not apply.
Normally a Craigslist purchase is done in cash, in person. People rarely purchase remotely on Craigslist, just for this reason.
What you do have, though, is a case of theft. You can file a police report and maybe (or maybe not) get your money back at some point.
- Who pays for the chargeback error on paypal? A fraudulent buyer on eBay asked me to ship an iPhone 5 to Indonesia even though that wasn't their verified address. Long story short I shipped phone to Indonesia and the buyer filed a chargeback. Eventually I got the money back from Paypal. Paypal paid for the item. Will paypal contact the buyer for the funds?
