Should I get into photography?

Just as a hobby, not professionally. I like taking pictures when I'm out and about. But I'm not sure if I have a talent for it. I only take pictures with my iPhone so the quality isn't that great.

Here are some pictures I've taken:

Because I love bacon haha:

I got started as a photographer in 2009 at my Yearbook class. Here we're in 2013, and I enjoy it. I have a Nikon D40, and normally go out on photo ops throughout the city. First, your iPhone is a great start. I believe that if you have a camera of some sorts, you're off to a great start. Go out, mess around with the settings on your camera, play around with different things and keep developing your "Camera eye"
I have page on Facebook you can check out.
"Inspirational Images by John" which is formally "John Pollock Photography"
Give it a try and see if you like it, and if not, no worries. Maybe there's a gift out there you just haven't found yet.

>Best of luck<

Do you enjoy taking photos? If the answer is yes, don't look for anyone's validation, just have fun with it.

Why even ask? Sheer enjoyment is reason enough. If it matters I'd say, within their context, your photos provide good reason to encourage you taking the next step. I could pull them all apart, but that's because nobody makes great images as a beginner. These are what I'd expect from somebody genuinely interested in taking good shots but so far lacking in development. Some people post on here blathering about how to promote their "business" with samples that should result in their camera being taken to a foster home.

The first thing, of course, is to stop hampering yourself with a phone camera. Good photography takes skill and tools that do as they're told. Entry-level DSLRs are very affordable, unless you're struggling to make ends meet. Do you know anybody with a DSLR who could give you some idea what they're all about? Choosing a DSLR generally means settling on a brand that will grow with you, so it's important to choose one that handles well for you. All the major manufacturers make good cameras but each brand has quite distinct design ergonomics. Go to a well-stocked store and try operating the cameras that interest you. Don't buy a camera at that time, unless you've already made up your shortlist. Take your time to do your research and read expert reviews such as those at www.dpreview.com. Access to a borrowed camera would help as you could learn some basics that would help when selecting your own purchase.

Once you have a camera with a decent sensor, good optics, and full manual controls, you should pick up some books and look up tutorials online to learn the fundamentals. The deeper your understanding of these principles, the more your craft will benefit.

They're beautiful! I love photography so i got a camera. The pictures you've taken are brilliant quality. Love the bacon (yum!).
