Update to iOS 6: Will it delete my music/photos? CopyTrans Manager?

I have an iPhone 3Gs (I know, I have to upgrade)
I hate iTunes so much, I always have bad experience with it so I used an iTunes alternative called Copy Trans Manager where I can add and delete songs on my iPhone.

I want to update my phone though to iOS 6.0.1, the latest one out there. My concern is, will it delete anything of my songs or photos, especially if I used Copy Trans Manager? Some of my songs were added via iTunes (back when I used it) and the last of my songs been added through Copy Trans Manager.

Can anyone answer? Anyone else dealed with anything like this? How did it go?

The update won't delete your files, but ITunes may. I could make a full backup within ITunes just to be safe. You can continue to use CopyTrans to add your media files… But ITunes works better for a complete backup.

That being said.unless you're having problems with your phone, it's not always the best idea to rush and install every update that comes out. I normally let others discover the bugs instead of just blindly updating firmware.

Upgrading from iOS 5 or earlier to iOS 6 will indeed delete your multimedia content from your iPhone. Multimedia content involves audio/video tracks, playlists, and photos.

As you do not use iTunes, there would be no way to restore your iPhone content and settings via iTunes after the upgrade. As you are already using copytrans manager, what I could think of is use copytrans in order to backup your iPhone music, videos, playlists, and apps to your PC:

before applying the update.

  • Will transferring music with 'CopyTrans Manager' hurt my iPhone? I see its an alternative to iTunes. I hate using iTunes. CopyTrans Manager apparently lets you copy past music and videos onto the iPhone… Is it safe though? will my iPhone 5c identify it as a foreign intrusion and kill my iphone? I have a jail broken iPhone 4s and since I couldn't sync it anymore with iTunes, I downloaded Ifun box and copytrans manager to add music or manage my phone. But when I plug my phone, an error occurred saying apple mobile device driver software installation failed. I have uninstalled iTunes. But I reinstalled the necessary drivers including apple application support and driver. Any help fixing this?
