They aren't terribly more expensive. For instance, looking at bestbuy -
the iphone 6s plus is $500 with a two year contract for the 128 GB version
and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is $450 for a 64 gb memory
also, depending on what data plan you get for monthly data internet usage can make any phone bill more expensive
the Galaxy s6 at bestbuy doesn't come with a 128 GB version like the iPhone 6 / 6s does, but i read Samsung might release a model soon. And there's no more memory expansion card slot for the latest Samsung models like the earlier ones. So for only $50 more, if you want a 128GB memory phone, get an iPhone for right now.
there are a lot of plans to get, either a two year contract, or month to month, that almost every major carrier has an option for, so that's another factor. Usually, with a contract plan, you can't upgrade until after two years, where a month to month might be sooner. Shop around at different carrier stores, or Apple and Best Buy stores holds most, if not all of the major carrier options. Umm…
An iPhone IS a smartphone. IPhones are classified as smartphones. They aren't. Other smartphones cost as much, some even more. The others that are less are likely for mid or lower markets therefore they wouldn't be priced as high for the top markets.
For the record iPhones are smartphones as well. Iphones ARE smartphones, they're simply the Apple brand of smartphone. If you're asking why Apple hardware is more expensive than other brands, it's a combination of quality, and brand-name recognition. IPhones ARE smartphones, idiot. Coz they seem to make statements. Because people are willing to pay those prices. Because idiots buy them. They are made for pennies by Chinese kids and sold for hundreds by greedy people who hype the item. Its the same if you buy a piece of clothing just because it has a certain company's name on it… You are self advertising an item from a company who is ripping you off.

- Will the iPhone 5 be significantly more expensive than the iPhone 4S? Basically, will the pricing for a new iPhone 5 be the same compared to the current iPhone 4S? Or do you think it will be more than the price of the iPhone 4S now? I'm contemplating just waiting for the iPhone 5 to buy a new phone but if it's going to be significantly more expensive than the iPhone 4S then I don't know if it is worth it.
- Why the iphone 5s is more expensive on ebay than in the apple store? I'm not complaining or anything just want to understand why would anyone buy it on ebay or what could be the reason why it is more expensive on ebay. Usually it is the other way around and on ebay you can get better deal but seems like when it comes to iphone 5s it is not the case. But why?
- Why is the new iPhone SE more expensive in the UK than the US? The price for a 16GB in the US is $399 (£282) and the price in the UK is £359, thats £77 more for the same thing?
- Why is the iPhone 5 more expensive than the iPhone 5C? Well iPhone 5C is newer and had a little improvement (not much of a difference, I know) but why is it less expensive than iPhone 5? They are still selling iPhone 5 here in our country I'm wondering why the price of 5C is lower than 5 even if it has sort of improvement.
