Why do I only get text messages when I have Wi-Fi on iphone 4?

Last week i was texting my boyfriend and when i left my house i never received his text but when I got home a notfication pops up and it says he sent me a text 2 hours ago. Can someone please help me if that makes aby sense?

Is your sim card activated? Do you have megabytes with your plan? If the text has a blue background it is imessage which requires megabytes, turn it off in settings > messages > imessage > off

  • Why is my iPhone5 sending some messages as iMessage and others as Text Messages? I understand that messages are sent as Text Messages when there's no signal or poor Wi-Fi connection. However, I'm successfully texting some people using iMessage but others (still iPhone users) as Text messages. The other person will send iMessages and then my responses will be sent as green Text Messages.
  • Why do I only get iPhone text messages? I have the iPhone 5. My friends have told me recently that they have been texting me (non-iphone users) and that I never reply. The problem is, I never get anything. It seems now as if the only people I get messages from are from iPhone users. I have played around in the settings and everything seems to be normal, I have even turned off/on my phone. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks. @Zoe: IMessage is on, yes. Is it supposed to be off?
  • When I receive text messages with emojis from an iPhone, why do the messages only appear partially? My phone is a "Verizon Samsung Intensity II" slide phone. (Also it's blue but that doesn't matter.) Also, if I'm included in an iPhone group chat (spoiled rich friends, but not snobby…), I get each posted message as a separate message, so I'll end up randomly with 67 unread messages clogging up my inbox.
  • If I turn off push messages on my iphone 4 will I still get my regular text messages? I read that turning off push messages or setting them to manually helps save battery life. I want to know if I do this will I still be able to receive my regular text messages.
