Am I protected by bank transfer?
I have recently taking the liberty into investing my money into buying and selling products online. I have found that gumtree is good for this, I have found an iphone 5 brand new for £290 I have mailed the guy about the listing. Although he will only accept a bank transfer because apparently he has reached his paypal receiving limits.
Alarm bells starting to ring, as I will only by via paypal or credit card for security reasons, is this guy trying to scam me? Or is he genuine?
Also am I protected if I do go into my bank personally and make a transfer to his account? If this is a scam can I get my money back?
Added (1). I have insisted that I will only use paypal although he is not so adamant. I've kindly declined his offer.
NO, not at all. If your smart you will use paypal.
If you make a bank transfer you will almost certainly have no way of getting your money back if it turns out to be a scam, other than taking the seller to court and getting a payment order (which is difficult, as a fraudster is probably not giving correct personal details anyway).
You surely know the saying that if it seems too good to be true, it probably isn't true.
You have NO protection with a bank transfer. Once you send the money, it's gone with no way to get it back
Gumtree is ONLY for face to face CASH transactions or you will get scammed. Never buy from anyone if you can't personally view and test the item before you agree to buy it
Bank transfer is secure through this process. You are protected and this is not a scam. If you feel that you have many question about investment policy then you can feel me to ask here. Simply go through the following link.
- What to do with iPhone 5s to make sure it's protected? I'm going to get a new iPhone 5s next month and I'm wondering is there any special way to take care and protect it? I've heard that you can't put it in your back pocket and things like that. I just want to get a full experience out of it. And to anyone who has one right now, can you rate it on performance 1-10?
- My iPhone was Stolen, am I protected? My iPhone 4 was recently stolen. The phone did have a passcode on it and had synced it to my computer, but I'm wondering if the thieves can bypass this passcode to get to my notes and pictures? I called AT&T and blacklisted the serial number as well as disabled the service. I'm not exactly sure what this means, but I'm curious if my information on the phone is protected.
- I broke my Iphone. Not backed up at all. I had $500 in my apple pay wallet that I had yet to transfer to my bank. Did I lose them? Or can I sign into my new phone when I get it and my apple pay money will be there? I still have the old phone and sim card still works. But verizon will send new phone and new sim card. Don't want to lose those $500 in there Edit: The phone was no Icloud backed up or anything.
