What to do with iPhone 5s to make sure it's protected?

I'm going to get a new iPhone 5s next month and I'm wondering is there any special way to take care and protect it? I've heard that you can't put it in your back pocket and things like that. I just want to get a full experience out of it. And to anyone who has one right now, can you rate it on performance 1-10?

Take a hammer, and wallop with hammer to iphone.

Get a case, screen protector etc. DO NOT drop it as the screens are pretty easy to break. Buy insurance that covers accidental damage so that in the worst case scenario, you can get it replaced.

  • What should I do to make sure my iPhone 4s still works after it fell in the toilet? My iPhone fell in the toilet yesterday and I put it in a bowl of rice for 24 hours. I took it out and charged it and it worked. I want to make sure that it won't glitch and die, so should I keep it in a bowl of rice while charging it for a day? I also noticed that when I was charging it at first, it started heating up… Should I be concerned?
  • My iPhone was Stolen, am I protected? My iPhone 4 was recently stolen. The phone did have a passcode on it and had synced it to my computer, but I'm wondering if the thieves can bypass this passcode to get to my notes and pictures? I called AT&T and blacklisted the serial number as well as disabled the service. I'm not exactly sure what this means, but I'm curious if my information on the phone is protected.
  • How to make sure my iPhone is safe to be used by others? Like if I want to show a friend a photo and they start going through other photos and come across an embarrassing: Photo Text message Web history (like once my friend saw my history of how to get rid of clammy hands YIKES!) But anyways is there other things I should check like any other things I'm missing [please make a list]
  • How to make sure if the iPhone is unlocked? I recently won a giveaway on a certain website of the iPhone 5, but they're located in the UK. I'm not from the UK. It's legitimate, I'm sure. But that's not my problem. My problem is that he's implying that the iPhone's unlocked, but how can I be so sure? Is there something on the packaging that indicated whether the phone inside is locked or unlocked?
