Are knockoff iPhone cases with Ferrari or other copyright logos illegal to sell?

Is it illegal to sell Ferrari, Mercedes, etc iPhone cases that are knockoffs?

What do you think, genius?

Yes, of course.

Yes, it's a copyright violation. Generally, they will confiscate any knock off merchandise that the seller still has, and then the seller gets hit with a huge fine, which is many times the selling price of the knock offs.

Define knock off. There are many images out there that are royalty free, including things of copyrighted logos. It would only be illegal if they do not have permission to use the images, or if they are misrepresenting their brand - claiming their cases are made by Apple when they are clearly not.

It sounds like a civil matter, not a criminal one. So the people selling knockoffs could get sued for money, but wouldn't go to jail.

  • Would it be okay to put logos of other companies in without permission in my art? I'm joining this nationwide art competition in my country with the theme of "consumerism." I'm planning on putting an iPhone on my artwork but instead it will say iDiot. Will designing it in a slightly altered way avoid lawsuits? Do you think the competition will reject my entry if they saw a representation of the iPhone? It will not be the main object in my piece, just a little accessory. Like really small.
  • Will using a knockoff iphone charging wall adapter ruin my iphone? I know that knockoff iphone chargers are bad for your iphone, but will a knock off wall adapter have any effect or harm the iphone?
  • Where can you find the CC and LV logos that go on the back of quilted iPhone cases? I'm looking where you can buy the chrome Chanel and Louis Vuitton logos that you see on the back of the quilted iphone cases. I took one out of one I have and they aren't glued on. They have two things that bend kind of like a brad?
  • Printing and selling iPhone cases - copyright issues? I'm looking in to setting up a small business involving printing iPhone cases. As a complete newbie to business and self-employment, does anyone know what copyright laws there would be attached to this? I would guess certain pictures / logos could not be used without the authorisation of whoever owns them. How could I find out whether something is copyrighted or free to use?
