Are there jacks for old speakers (with wires)?

I have two 1990 speakers, that I would love to hook up to either my laptop or iphone.
I was wondering if there are any jacks that I'm un aware of that could help me.
They are two plain wires from the speakers that go up to the old stereo system. I've been told that those two wires on the inside (of the stereo) wrap around a metal object (? A screw?) and that's how the sound works. When I take them out, there isn't any jack at all, so i'm stuck with two wires.
As you can tell I'm quite lost:$

Sorry, but this won't work even if you did manage to connect things. Your laptop or iPhone do not provide enough power at the headphone jack to drive speakers such as you describe. You might even damage your laptop or iPhone (more likely your iPhone) by connecting unpowered speakers to them.

(By the way, "jacks" are the holes. The pointy thing on the end of your headphone cable is a plug, not a jack.)

If you still have the rest of the stereo system, you could get a cable with a 3.5 mm TRS stereo phone plug on one end and dual RCA plugs on the other. Connect the RCA plugs into an "aux" input on the stereo. Set the stereo to "aux", plug the 3.5mm end of the cable into your laptop or phone, and you should hear the sound through the speakers.

Failing that, you need to get a set of amplified speakers (typical "PC speakers"), or else get a home stereo-type receiver or integrated amplifier.

You need an amplifier. It will have outputs you can connect your speaker wires to. It will have RCA or 3.5mm aux inputs, which either can connect to your phone or computer with a mating cable.

The amplifier will need to connect to power.

A popular one is the Lepai T-amp.

  • Why does my cat keep eating cable wires? I've had her for like 4 years and all the sudden this past week she has chewed up 4 of my iPhone chargers and my macbook charger. I'm so confused cuz she's never done this until now. Is there something i can spray on the wires? Why is she doing this all the sudden
  • Which order do these wires go in? Hi so i'm trying to solder the wires for my iPhone charger and i was wondering what the order of these wires is(which goes first second and so on) WHITE GREEN BLACK RED
  • What is 3 and 4 pole in 3.5 mm jacks? I bought a case for my iPhone that has a small headphone port hole. As a result the AUX cable from my car doesn't fit into the phone as it is bigger than the hole. Anyway, I'm trying to buy a thin male to female 3.5 mm extension so that it fits in with the case on. But I notice there are 3 pole and 4 pole ones Which do I need and what are they?
  • What can I do with my old pair of speakers? I have this set of speakers that are very quiet. I would use them for my iPhone 4 but my iPhone 4 is at least twice as loud. My laptop is at least five times louder. I want to take the speakers apart and do something cool with maybe the magnet and wires and any other part of the speaker. Does anybody have some suggestions? It would be great if you provided steps for how to do something.
