Buying an iphone off Gumtree? (australia - melbourne)?

I'm getting a new phone, off Gumtree, for $460
It's an ipHone 5 32gb.
If it doesn't get sold by today, I'll buy it.
How do I know the phone is in good condition? He said it's in really good condition BUT the top button(lock button) doesn't work, and you can easily get it repaired for $30 or something.
How Do i know if the guy is being legit? How do i know if it's not stolen? How do i know it won't stop working after a day?

How do i find out the IMEI?

Sorry for the long read, but i want to be safe and don't want it to come bite my in the ***!
He said it doesn't have a receipt, but it was on a contract with TELSTRA.

Ask to meet him either at an Apple store or a Telestra store. They can verify the phone is legit and not stolen and at Telestra they can transfer his account to you so he can't later claim it was stolen

  • Should I buy an Iphone 5 of gumtree or craigslist? There's a 16gb one for £110 from gumtree and a 64gb one for £280, its cheap but it still seems a little bit shady so i'm not too sure? Is it worth it or will i probably get a faulty phone or scammed?
  • Is it safe to buy from gumtree? I'm thinking about buying iPhone 4S 16GB from GumTree and want to meet the person who sellls it, but what if the person will report it stolen and block it? How can I prove I bought it? THE PHONE WILL BE UNLOCKED AND WILL GO TO RUSSIA IF THAT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW

  • Iphone 5 blocked? Keeps saying no serivce on 3 network, bought on gumtree? I recently bought iphone 5 off gumtree with 3 network its work fine for about 2 weeks and all of a sudden it came on no service, I've tried everything, airplane mode, resetting connections and I can't seem to find the seller anywhere I'm worried I wasted my money.
