Can at&t Iphone 5 use a sim prepaid?

Okay so have a at&t iphone 5.It isn't a prepaid, at least i don't think. I'm not sure (someone gifted it to me). Anyways i've had my iphone 5 for a while with no service; using it as a ipod/ and for web thru Wi-Fi. Anyways is it possible to get a at&t prepaid sim card for my iphone 5? And work?

The iPhone 5 uses a micro sim if I'm not mistaken. I don't believe many prepaid phones use that type of sim card. Usually you can use the sim from a contract phone for AT&T on one of their prepaid phones (if it fits), but I don't think you can go the other way around.

First you have to make sure that your iphone is unlocked, you can do that by going to Settings->General->About and then reed where it says CARRIER. If it says At&t or another phone company then your iphone is locked and can only be used with that carrier. If it doesn't have any carrier then your iphone will work with no problem on a pre paid sim card.

  • When I unlock my iphone can I use a prepaid SIM card when I travel? I live in Germany and a friend sold me her iphone 3gs when her contract was up. She said the phone would be unlocked after a certain date but it hasn't yet. If i do this myself will I be able to use any SIM card? I have 1and1 for phone service and when I travel to the states I get a prepaid SIM from tmobile. Will these work on the iphone too?
  • What's a prepaid phone? Can IPhones be prepaid? I'm going to buy an IPhone 4 from my friend and i'm wondering if it can be prepaid? If so do I need anything like a sim chip? & It's not on contract… Or could I just go on a plan without being on a contract?
  • Is there a prepaid plan I can use with my 3GS using my AT&T SIM card? I know that StraightTalk has gone all screwy for us AT&T iPhone users. I really don't want to have to buy a new SIM card from anyone, especially not at the supply-and-demand prices one now faces in the mobile phone world. If I can keep my number, that'd be just too groovy for words; I don't really expect to be able to though.
  • If I can buy a iphone 3 from somebody, can i use it with T-mobile prepaid? The former owner of the phone who is selling it says that they used it with T mobile on the prepaid and on the 2year plan. Would it still be possible for me to use it on the prepaid plan if I got a plan of my own through t-mobile?
