Can I cancel service with T-Mobile even though I still owe on an EIP device?

Last year I switched from AT&T to T-Mobile to try and save a little money and get a new phone. Big mistake… I barely have service anywhere and i'm constantly dropping calls when I do have service. I have unlimited data, but that's just about the only good thing. I wanted to switch to Verizon a couple of months ago so I went into pay the remaining $300 I owed on my iPhone 5S and cancel my plan (they don't have contracts). I was talked into upgrading to an iPhone 6 and was told that because my 5S was so new, that I would owe just about the same amount on the 6 and would be able to pay it off then and save a little bit of money rather than going straight to Verizon. Well, they lied. I now owe $500 something on an iPhone 6. I was completely irate. I went over everything in detail with the salesman before I signed any paperwork.

Now i'm stuck with a phone that I still owe $500 on and have TERRIBLE service everywhere I go. Is it possible to cancel my plan with T-Mobile and just pay the EIP payment for the phone I have with them so that I can go ahead and get a contract with Verizon, or do I have to have the phone in use in order to make the payments? What are my options here? I know I can't just give them the phone back for an EIP credit, although that would be convenient. I honestly don't care if I'm at a little bit of a loss here because I'm so sick of not having service anywhere.

The carrier will expect that when you pay your final bill after you cancel, that you ALSO pay off the remaining balance on your phone. You can ask to make payments, but you signed a contract (yes the EIP is a contract), to pay it off in full of you leave BEFORE the two years it takes to pay it off in payments. You signed and agreed to that, so it does not matter what the salesperson may have said, if it is NOT in the paperwork that your signed, it is not going to be honored.

  • Will Apple still replace my iPhone 5S even though the warranty is out? Okay so the other day I noticed some very weird black particles in my photos, I tried cleaning the camera but it didn't work. I'm scheduled for a genius appointment tomorrow and my warranty is out. I don't want to have to spend $300 on getting a replacement. So would they still replace my iPhone or would I have to deal with their pathetic policies?
  • Why can I still send texts to other iPhones even though my iPhone has NO sim card? My iPhone stopped recieving calls properly so I've had to put my sim card into a different phone. Why when my mate text me from his iPhone did I receive it still on my iPhone and not the phone with the sim card in. And I was able to text him back from the iPhone but when he called me the little Nokia that I'm using rang… I'll be honest, I really don't understand how iOs stuff works…
  • When traveling, can I buy a SIM card to my iphone even though I'm still on a contract? I'm traveling soon. I have verizon and their roaming service is very expensive. I was wondering if once I get to my destination country, can I buy a SIM card so that I can be able to obtain phone service while on my trip? If not, My iphone is still under contract, if I get my phone unlocked, then buy a SIM card, would that also be a problem?
  • Should I update my iTunes even though i still have iOS7? I have an iPhone 4 so I can't get iOS8. But lately iTunes has been sending me messages asking if I want to update, but they're all meant for iOS8. I don't want to download it and have it mess up my phone somehow. But at the same time there are security updates that are usually important. So what should I do?
