Can I recover my iPhones number?
So my friend gave me his old iPhone 5 and I already have a phone so I never bothered reactivating it or anything I just used it for iMessage and music. The phone had a number. Recently I signed out of their iCloud account and used mine and I suddenly couldn't send messages on iMessage from that number. I tried signing back in to their iCloud to recover that number but it wasn't working. Now I can only iMessage through this email thing. Which looks dumb. Is there anyway I can recover that number? I really would rather text off that than this email thing
When you signed that iCloud account out, that's it. He has either removed his number from iCloud most likely as he's not using an iPhone any longer. You can attempt to add your number to the your iCloud account so that iMessage will use it. Short of email, that's the only option you have. Best luck.

If you don't have a cell plan then no you can't use a phone number because there's none.
- Why is my iPhone number being displayed wrongly on my number? My number is X, but on "my number" settings, it's being displayed number Y. Why is that? Also, some people told me that when I call or text them, the number Y is appearing to them, not the number X as it should. On the other hand, if I call the number X, my iPhone rings normally, but the same thing doesn't happen when I call number Y.

But for some reason as i switched over to the new phone, i could still text people who had imessage on the old phone. But people who didn't, i couldnt text on my old phone. Why does this happen? Is it because its not really a "text" message?
