Can I text a different city without being charged extra? (Canada)?

So I met a girl online and I want to start texting her, but she lives in a different city. Same province though. I was just wondering if I can text her without having to pay long distance. I'm with Telus and I have the iPhone 5.

Text messages are not subject to long distance charges if sent from Canada to Canada. International texts cost quite a bit (ex.sending a text from Canada to the US can cost 0.50$).

Check your mobile contract to be sure.

  • Will I be charged extra if I use personal hotspot on my iphone 4s? (T-mobile)? I have unlimited data. I've looked online, but can't find a definite answer. If I will be charged extra, will I be charged a certain amount per day/week?
  • Will I be charged extra for using 3G? I don't have a data plan. On my iPhone, i've turned off the cellular data in the settings. But 3G was on and I didn't know. I did use internet these past few days in places with low Wi-Fi reception. I'm not sure if I ended up using the 3G or Wi-Fi. Is it even possible to use 3G if cellular data is turned off? Suppose I did use 3G, will my phone company charge me extra, even though cellular data was off? I'm really confused about this.
