Can I use an Australian sim in my UK iphone 4 without unlocking it?

I'm going to Australia on Monday and I'm with tmobile on a monthly contract and I want to avoid paying roaming fees.

No, but watch out for them kangaroos! They have been known to kidnap people

Not Possible

No however there are places in Australia that can unlock your phone for a fee. Remember to turn off data roaming in your settings before you go to avoid these roaming charges.

You can't use an Australian SIM in your UK iPhone without unlocking. The only option available for you is either unlock your iPhone or pay roaming fees.
When compared with high roaming fees, It is better to unlock your iPhone 4 at low cost. If you need to unlock your iPhone 4, you can choose the remote unlocking service. Using this remote unlocking service, You can unlock your iPhone 4 safer and simpler just being from your home through online. You can get the remote unlocking service for an iPhone 4 from http://www.classicunlocking.com/apple-iphone-4/rs16wp9/ at affordable cost with free step by step unlocking instructions. This method of unlocking doesn't require a jailbreak too.

What no one has yet to mention is that it is possible. Although most iPhones bought on a contract are locked, some are missed. Therefore it is possible that your phone could already be unlocked - you just don't know.

My advice would be to check your phone before you go, and potentially save yourself a lot of money.

To check, simply insert any other compatible SIM card in the phone from a network that isn't T-Mobile (EE or Orange either for that matter) and attempt to receive a phone call. If you can, then the iPhone is unlocked.

All the best and enjoy your trip.

  • Would I be allowed? (Australian)? I'm boarding a QANTAS plane and going from QLD to VIC (Melbourne), would I be allowed to put my iPhone (5) to airplane mode and turn it off and just use it to take pictures on the plane? It will just be through my window, and if I'm taking it through the opposite side of me, i will ask their permission.
  • Will an Australian Iphone 4s work in New Zealand? My Nana lives in australia and has an Iphone 4s to give to me. She has used it but need the screen replaced as it was dropped on the bathroom tile floor. But she is getting it replaced for me. I'm not sure where she purchased it from, I do think I will have to get it unlocked because she was on a plan that you pay it off for 24 months. I'm not too sure if it can be and if so where? I would ask her but she doesn't know squat about technology.
  • Where can I get a good Australian plug in for my iPhone USB cord? I'm going from the US to Australia, and all I need is something that can plug in to an Australian outlet without blowing up my phone. Where can I get one of these that will actually work, and won't cost me a ton? Links are appreciated!
