Do laptops have CD/DVD drives anymore?
Despite being 23 I'm still not that up to date on technology. The laptop I have now (Sony Vaio) has been great, but after having it for over 6 years it's starting to not work very well, crashes often, and after getting a virus it won't download any programs so I think it's time to replace it. I've been looking at laptops online and the options are confusing. For one thing most of them are really cheap, the laptop I have cost over $800 when I purchased it and that was rather inexpensive compared to the others. Are the cheap ones just as good? Also, what's the difference between chromebook, ultrabook, and PC? I have an iPhone 5 so I don't need a tablet type computer. Also, I can't find any laptops that have the DVD/CD drive built in, which I need because I like to download pics onto CDs and watch DVDs on my computer.
Any advice/suggestions? I want a laptop that's more like a computer, not a tablet basically and that has a CD/DVD drive.
Laptops have gotten cheaper because making miniaturized electronics has become much cheaper over the past few years. Chromebook is an inexpensive laptop by google with their own OS so it would be unfamiliar, its mostly meant for internet use since a lot of popular software don't work with it. Laptops these days don't need DVD drives for the same reason tablets and phones don't. Mostly everything is done over the internet. Music, downloading and installing software, games etc. If you're worried about not having a DVD drive, there's always the option of thumb drives or external DVD drives which are both fairly cheap, usually around $15-$30. I'd recommend something by Acer, Lenovo, or Asus.
Hit a Barnes & Nobel and get a PC Magazine (or hit their website, computershopper.com). You should be able to find what you're looking for. Do N-O-T get either a Celeron or Sempron laptop!
They still do.
With everything go digital and store at server or cloud services, dvd drive not longer needed. However, you still can find dvd drive on some 15.6" laptop. I would suggest you use external disk drive.
chromebook is a laptop running Chrome OS as its operating system. The devices are designed to be used primarily while connected to the Internet, with most applications and data residing "in the cloud".
ultrabook is high-end subnotebooks which are designed to feature reduced bulk without compromising battery life.
$800 is good enough for decent laptop. The more expensive it is, the better experience in video editing or gaming.
- What devices have HDMI output other than DVD/Blu-ray players, game consoles, and some computers? I have a monitor, I wonder what kind of devices can project their images onto the screen other than video players and game consoles. Any way to project the image of my tablet/phone onto the screen?
- IPhone will pick up Wi-Fi but laptops won't? My iPhone is picking up Wi-Fi at my house but my laptops won't. (I know it's picking up from the router because I shut it off and it stopped - and it's not 3G or anything like that either. Any advice on why it would be doing this?
- If you have a tv series on DVD? If you have a copy of a tv series on dvd would you ever purchase the tv series again on iTunes or on Amazon prime to have it in your iPhone or not?
- How will I play my DVD movies if DVD players become obsolete? Most of my movies are on Amazon or iTunes or some digital format but I have some DVDs that I have not been able to find in digital format--Cats, The Three Lives of Thomasina, Fantasia. I have those on DVD and I have a CD/DVD drive in my laptop computer but my next computer won't have the drive so how would play the movies on my computer. Right now I hook up my laptop to a large screen and watch. What happens in the future?
