Do older iPhones get slower over time?

My brother and I are not getting new iPhones this year (which I could care less about) and we currently have the iPhone 4s. My brother told me that overtime the 4s will operate slower and slower as the new upgrades emerge over the years so therefore we should be getting new phones. Is this true or is he just being a greedy brat?

Added (1). Do you think that if I just choose not to update the versions it could still be functional for at least 2 years? We just can't really afford to buy a brand new phone.

I would just wait for the IPhone 6/IPhone 6s. What your brother said is just plain wrong. But as Apple keeps on making newer Iphones, the older Iphones will not be able to get a new update like iOS 7; for iPhone 3Gs, IOS 7 will not work. But don't worry, your iPhone will get updates till 2 or 3 years later.

Haha, somewhat that is true. The problem isn't the phone itself, but more like the new upgrades that these modern times brings us. As more and more advanced systems get, the more older systems won't be able to support the new ones. Though i definitely think that your brother just wants the newest iphone because an iphone 4s is very good… Lol

Every iPhone speed remain the same forever, if you want it faster then you could to buy a new one. It is up to you if you want to spend about an extra $300+ on an new iPhone and it only a few second faster…

Sometimes it might be.
