Does 4G LTE use more data than 3G?

So here's the story.
I have recently upgraded my phone from iPhone 4 to a Motorola RAZRRm while doing so, I lost my unlimited data.
When I used my iPhone I ran on 3G network which always seemed to work great.
Now that I have upgraded my phone I'm on Verizons 4G LTE network but seem to go through my data unbelievably fast. Now I have 2GB of data.
I have talked to tech support several time only for them to say they see nothing wrong with my phone.
And while poking around different things in my phone I came across the ability to change the network settings on my phone (global, LTE, 3G).
So I have two questions:
1. Does 4G LTE use more data than 3G and
2. Will changing my phone to 3G ruin anything?

It's not the network you use. Its because with androids you have apps that are tunning nonstop until you manually stop them. And some of those apps are using data even if you're asleep, so look for your task.manager and end all processes and restrict nackground data. Ask a verizon tech agent how to restrict nackground data

You are now using a phone that has all kinds of garbage running in the background.

Actually, the android operating system does not have more running in the background. Unlike the iPhone, which requires you to manually stop each and every app, the android only lets any given app or operation run for a limited time before auto closing it.

That said, any given website will still have the same amount of data transmitting regardless of the speed of the network. However, because the 4G is much faster, you are likely going through more data in the same timeframe.

  • Why has my iPhone been using more data than usual? I have a 2GB data plan that i have never overaged on. I moved to a different state for college, and after using my phone for a couple weeks here, i'm already nearing 4GB of data. I'm not using it any differently, just how i did at home. I used 1 GB of data in a period of 7 hours. Could someone please explain how this is possible? I have spoken to Verizon and Apple, who both were of no assistance. I have fetch completely off, and location services off as well.
  • Whatsapp doesn't allow more than 16 mb file transfer.but i'm able to transfer files much larger than that through my iphone 6 plus Whatsapp doesn't allow more than 16 mb file transfer. But i'm able to transfer files much larger than that through my iphone 6 plus. How is that possible?
  • Does LTE use more data than 3G? I've already reached my data limit. This has happened in the past but not this quickly, I've noticed on the top left corner of my iPhone it says "Verizon LTE" if I disable that it will say "Verizon 3G" will I not use all of my data so quickly if I disable LTE and use 3G?
  • How much more data does the iPhone 5 use than the iPhone 4 & 4S? I'm considering switching from my old phone to iPhone 5 and I need to know how much more data I would be using. Also if anyone knows how much a month the data would cost for an iPhone 5 that would be helpful. (I use ATT&T) Also any opinions about iPhone 4S vs iPhone 5 just so I can compare the two
