Does home owners insurance cover damage caused by car fire?

My truck was in the driveway - unattended - and started on fire. Destroyed car, fence in my yard, trees scrubs and we also lost property that was in the car - two computers - tools - Iphone. Does homeowners cover this loss? Car insurance I thought was only for collision or when operating the vehicle. The truck was parked - totally unattended - we were not even home. Weird to come home to a burning truck.

Call your insurance agent and ask them these questions. After all, it is what you have paid for. You deserve to get the answers to your questions from someone who actually has the information and can help you.

All Insurance policies are individual.
The simplest thing is to ring the insurers, rather than get guesses from people here.

Burning truck is covered under auto insurance policy coverage comprehensive. Home covered under homeowners insurance.

Your homeowners policy would cover damage to the house, fence, trees/shrubs (limited amount of coverage), stuff inside the truck. It won't cover the truck itself - so you'll have two claims, a fire claim on the car insurance policy, and a fire claim on your homeowners insurance - and two deductibles.

Homeowners insurance covers the damage to the fence and maybe the plants, but not the car or truck.

You were wrong about car insurance. Car insurance is not only for collision or when operating the vehicle.

Car insurance is the only kind of insurance for a car, ever, at any time.

If your truck had "comprehensive" car insurance, this includes damage while parked - totally unattended, whether from fire, lightning, hail, flood, theft, vandalism, or almost anything else.

If you had only liability and collision insurance, then the damage to the truck is not covered.

Find out what caused the fire. Many successful lawsuits have been brought about under a Product Liability claim.

My neighbor had his house burn down because of a faulty battery on a golf cart. He collected for his loss from the golf cart battery manufacturer.

Your truck policy would cover the truck, your stuff may or may not be covered depending on the truck and its usage.

For instance, your two computers and tools may not be covered if used for business purposes. You would need a property policy (often thrown onto General Liability for a small fee) for your tools and the computers.
