Does imessage use data to send text message?

I got a new iphone today with a plan that includes only 100 minutes and unlimited text. I have heard from some people now that imessage uses data. Does it?

Any text uses data to be sent or received. IMessage is only different because unlike an regular text you can use Wi-Fi. The other difference it iMessage is a message sent via Apple's servers and not your carrier's so it doesn't count towards your unlimited text count. Best luck.
