Does texting on iPhones use data?
I just got an iPhone 5c a couple of days ago after having a "dumb phone" for two years. Today I noticed that every time my 3G was turned off and I didn't have Wi-Fi my texts took a long time to send, or they didn't send at all. I'm aware that iMessages only work with Wi-Fi, but what about regular texting? Does regular texting need/use data? This probably makes me sounds really stupid. I'm sorry
Normal texting via messages don't require Wi-Fi or cellular network. Although, when having the iMessage function on, your iPhone will automatically send your text through the Wi-Fi or network.
Hope this helps;)
Texting is so small it doesn't even matter whether it does or doesn't.
No. Texting does not require data.
For the record iMessage (which would fall under I'm (instant messaging. Can also work with data connections as well & as you said will require an internet connection.
- Why does my iphone use data over night when cellular data is turned off? Every night I turn off cellular data and leave the iPhone on and one day I wake up and check my data manager and see i have already used 25 MB please help!
- When you have Wi-Fi and cellular data on at the same time, does it use cellular data? If I keep my cellular data on and also have my iPhone connected to Wi-Fi, will it use any of my cellular data?
- Texting notification to the person I'm texting? How do I change on my iPhone 5s so the person I'm texting doesn't see that I'm texting them with the bubble
- If I keep my data on but also use Wi-Fi will it use my data? I just got an iPhone from us cellular. I use Wi-Fi to save data, but I can't receive group messages if my data isn't on. If I keep my data on all the time, but use Wi-Fi, will it use my data? And if I keep both on will it use my Wi-Fi instead of data?
