Does texting on my iphone 5s use my data?

I just got an iphone 5s and I have to share my gigs with my mom and dad I text my fiancé non stop 24/7 does texting on my iphone use my data plan? He says it does but a website i went on says it doesn't so i'm wondering if it really does use my data can anyone tell me?

Your fiancé is correct. If you have AT&T, Verizon, Sprint… Etc it should have a fee for texting.

No, if you have unlimited texting then that what you're paying for the 24/7 texts. Data means time spent on the internet. Streaming movies, games, news apps, instagram, facebook, all those things use data. A full length movie is about 1 gig of data. Email and simple things use data but far less than games…

Does he have an iPhone as well? If you both have iPhones and are using iMessage then yes, that uses data. Howeve! It uses very litte data.

If he is not using an iPhone or turned off iMessafe, then it would use the cellular service and will not use data.

Texting doesn't use data as long as you're using the default texting app. If you use different apps that uses data to send texts, you'll be charged for data. Apps like Whatsapp, GoSMSPro, I'm+, IMo, etc.
