Does the ipod feature of iPhone 5 use data?

When I transfer songs from my music library on the computer to my iPhone, does that take up data? Also, does the number of songs on the iPod affect how much data is used?

Neither function uses any data. Transferring songs either uses the USB cable (no data) or Wi-Fi (no data). And since transferring them doesn't use data, storing them on the phone obviously doesn't use data either.

The only way you can use data for music on an iPhone (or iPod) is if you use Apple's iTunes Match service, which lets you stream your music library from the Internet to your iPod or iPhone. Streamed music isn't stored on your device, so whenever you're listening to it, you are using data (or Wi-Fi).

P.S. This also makes sense if you consider that the iPod came before the iPhone, and iPods have no data capabilities at all (and some don't have Wi-Fi either) - so obviously if iPods can work without using data, an iPhone acting as an iPod would too.

No it doesn't.
No that doesn't.

If by data you mean storage space then yes to both. Data for the record is the use of 3G/4G through cellular carriers.

  • Will I receive data charges for using the hotspot feature on my iphone? I would like to use the internet on my laptop during a road trip. Can I connect to the internet using an Apple iPhone 4? If I do so, will I receive data charges on my iPhone or will this use up my monthly allowed data as per my monthly data plan?

  • Why can't I use the iMessage feature on my iPhone 4S? My friend gave me their iPhone when she got a new phone, and I use the iPhone as an iPod. I have linked my Apple ID to use the iMessage and FaceTime, however, when I try to use it, it says "Waiting for activation… ". How do I activate it? It has worked before, yet I don't know why it is doing this now. Is there a solution? I already checked Apple Support but that hasn't really helped.
