Dropped iphone 5 in 5 feet of water for 1-2 minutes?

Okay, my phone fell offhe dock into a pond. I immediately dove in to retrieve it, but it took me about a minute or two to actually find it in the 5 feet of water. When I got it out, I left it on, not knowing I should have turned it off. I put it in rice once home. Iturned it off another 10 minutes later after searching it on google. My phone worked okay, and I even received notifications, but my touch screen was acting funny. How long should I leave the phone in the rice? Are there any other actions I can take to help dry it out? And do you think its going to work? Any knowledgeable answers are welcome, and personal experiences are encouraged to be shared.

You should try leaving it in the rice overnight. Usually that will allow the moisture on the inside to get time to travel out and be picked up by the rice. Otherwise, you should be fine now that it is already working again. But you should probably leave it, so that it won't short circuit due to the internal moisture.

  • Is it safe to use a 10 feet long data sync cable on the iPhone? I just bought a 10 feet long cable for my iPhone 4. But it just occurred to me that it could be harmful for the battery if power is lost at such a long distance. Power/technology experts: Would you recommend not using this cable for the well-being of my phone?
