How does Skype work? I need to start making international calls from my home-office?
I will start working with Int'l companies in Latin America and will need to be able to call from and to the US. The home phone and cell phone fees are outrageous. Can I use my Iphone to make and receive calls via Skype? How is the voice quality? And does anyone have any better and/or cheaper solution?

Skype is 100% free if it's being used at both ends of the call. But if you use it to call a regular phone instead, you have to pay Skype for the minutes (which is cheaper than regular long-distance rates, but still not free).
I've used Skype for international calls on and off for several years and overall the voice quality is very good, although sometimes there are glitches like echoes or breakups. Overall it's clearer than a regular call, but the chance of problems is higher too.
There are a number of other similar apps such as Viber, etc. That also let you do free Internet calls, but Skype is the most popular one, so it's most likely that the person you're talking to already has it or can get it working. It works on all popular phones (iPhone, Android, etc.) and it also works on PCs and Macs.
P.S. Since Skype uses the Internet, you will pay for data on your phone when you use it, unless your phone is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Why are international calls barred on my iPhone 4s on EE's Tmobile network (UK)? The problem is whenever I try to call abroad, I get a message saying international calls are barred. I use to make them before I got my iPhone so I'm not sure if it's a phone problem. I've called up T-mobile many times but they tell me international calls should be working and there's no issue. Has anyone else come across this issue or know how to resolve it.
