How fast/slow is 1.5Mbps/384Kbps DSL? - 1

My new apartment only offers this speed DSL. I'll most likely set up a modem so i can have Wi-Fi and it'll only be me using the internet (connected to my iphone as well). I just want to know whether this is "fast" enough? I mostly do basic web surfing, downloading pdf files, and streaming videos online (so i can watch tv shows/movies). How long will the buffer take for the videos I stream or web content to download? And do you think I should upgrade my service? I'm a college student so reliable internet is a must. I think the DSL service will be from AT&T.

The average user in 2013 has a 5Mbp/s Download and 756Kbps/s Upload. So your question if 1.5Mbp/s Download and 384Kbp/s Upload is fast or slow, in today's standards, its slow. You will experience a lot of "buffering" when streaming video with a 1.5Mbp/s Download and 384Kbp/s Upload connection.

Since you're a college student and would like to stream videos (i.e. YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc.) and will be the only one on the network, I'd recommend getting a 3Mbp/s Download and 756Kbp/s Upload connection.

If you won't be the only user on the network or will have many devices connected to the network, I'd recommend getting at least a 6Mbp/s Download and 1Mbp/s Upload Internet Plan. The faster the better.

I think you would need at least 6 Mbps to do
that.
I have no problem, but I run @ 17.30 Mbps.

You need to optimize browsers and internet connection.
- First of all update the browser
- Disabling The Firewall
- Remove unwanted tool-bars and plug-ins
- clear temp files
- Deactivate background running services
If you are unable to perform above tasks then use a single utility tool like PCFresher that will not only fix windows errors but will also optimize Internet

For a while now my Wi-Fi Internet has been really slow on my PC (Win Vista) and laptop (Win XP), even if I connect them to the Internet by a LAN cable. I know it's old OSs but it was perfectly fine up until a couple of months ago. Speedtest.net won't even open now. On my Apple devices, however, iPhone 5 and iPad mini it works great. I can watch movies and do anything I want. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
