How many calories does walking one mile really burn?

I have two main conflicting sources for how may calories I'm burning while walking, so I figured I'd turn to the public's answers. I'm: male, approximately 145 pounds, 5'8", and walk 3.5 to 4 mph (15 to 13 minute mile). Internet searches, my first source, which is probably aimed towards a general audience has shown me that I burn about 75 calories per mile however, my second source, a pedometer app for iPhone called Pacer, which allows me to add more specific values, gives me less than 50 calories per mile. Which one is correct, or more correct? Feel free to add your own knowledge.

Thanks in advance!

Added (1). @BDary2 Yeah. That was probably my cheif explanation, it just surprises me that it makes that much of a difference. Then again, where I live it feels like San Francisco with all the hills.

Its all just an estimate as it doesn't know when the terrain is slightly uphill etc. As that all matters alot.

  • How many calories should I intake a day? If you can send me to a realiable site or even an Iphone app, I'd love that! I won't share my weight, height, etc. On here. No way. Just please help me find a website or an app.
  • How many calories (roughly) does this burn? I know it depends on the persons metabolism & a few other factors so I'm not asking for an exact amount or anything. I'm 16, 5'6, and weigh about 115. And I eat about 900-1,000 calories a day. This is my exercise I get each day: walk about 2 to 3 hours throughout the day (i don't know how many MPH but I walk a medium-fast pace) Then I wait until night to do my actual exercises, which are: dance for about an hour jumping jacks sit-ups squats minute wall sit.
  • How many calories does the 7 minute workout burn? I'm 5'5" and 14 if that helps but I have the iPhone app for the 7 minute workout and was wondering how many calories it burns
  • How many calories did I really burn today during my 50 minute jog? I use MFP to track my steps using the iPhone pedometer. I then went for a 50 minute jog at around 5mph when I enter it manually, it counts as 400 burnt calories yet my pedometer says I only burnt around 200. I'm male, 5'7", skinnyish, 145 pounds
