How to create a prototype for an invention?

So my idea is a phone external battery pack case that uses batteries. I'm also thinking about making it have a feature where it can recharge the batteries as well (but that's an add on for another day). And it also like an otterbox case as well in that the phone won't break if you drop it. I have a general idea of the case's design and a general understanding of what parts i need. The problem is that i don't have the parts i need, nor do i know how to get or make them, like the part that goes into the phone port. So if i have an idea for a prototype, how can i actually make it? If anyone has any experience in inventing something, your advice would be awesome.

thanks to all that answer!

Added (1). rajesh- ironically, i didn't even think of that. Which is odd, because that is usually the 2nd thing i do after google.

Added (2). nightworks- i know they've been around; i have one. This is a normal charger case:

the difference in mine is that instead of having to charge your phone and charge the battery pack, it will run on batteries attached so you can instantly charge your phone. I and people i know who have external batteries constantly forget to charge both the phone and charger.

Added (3). i'm also not expecting to make this a billion $ industry, but i think it would be a cool invention that could possibly make some money. And i'm not gonna let a company charge me for my own idea. I'd rather do it myself.

I think for that you should watch it on youtube

Most small electroncs companies will produce one-offs or prototypes, for a fee (and it won't be cheap…). So long as your drawings are accurate, it should be possible to make.

However, unless your "invention" has a US.P., rechargable external battery packs for phones have been around for quite some time, so your idea is not new…

Others have beaten you to it, and you wouldn't be able to patent it.

One example of "prior invention" is that radio amateurs
and other emergency responders
have been putting batteries into cases
along the lines of your idea for decades.
