How to deal with snobby relatives I can't avoid?

My aunts and their children always look down on my family because my mom doesn't have the money to be spoiling me and my 2 other sisters, and I don't expect her to. They're always talking about which new iphone they have, what car they just bought for their children, and what vacations they're going to go on.

What really bothers me is that my mom doesn't think anything of it and tells me to shrug it off because "they're family"

I've gotten to a point where I try to avoid every family gathering because I can't stand them and their children bragging about what they got or talking about other people and what they don't have. The problem is my mom doesn't get it and she gets mad at ME when I try to avoid them. How do I deal with these snobby people without making my mom angry?

Just say, "Pardon me, but I find the lot of you to be jolly well stupid and utterly repulsive! Have a wonderful day!"

I have dealt with this before. I listened to my mom's relatives talk sh't about us in our face, but i didn't say anything back cis "they're family", big mistake. You have to show them who they think they are messing with it. Don't worry about your mom, she will forgive you the next day. Take a stand. I had to live with my mom's relatives who were annoying as hLL. Say something not too harsh, but harsh enough that they get the point. Say something like" hey you do know i'm standing right here, at least ahve the courtesy to talk behind my back cus we're family. How do you expect your family to respect. "

  • Why are iPhone owners so snobby? They are always putting #teamiPhone on facebook/twitter posts. I want the new iPhone 5, but I'm too poor. If I had it, I wouldn't be shoving it on anyone's face.
  • Multiple smaller checks to avoid the $1000+ funds availability hold at USAA? I have USAA and I plan on using the Deposit@Mobile method of depositing with the USAA iPhone app. I want to deposit $1200 on Monday but I need the funds a few hours after I create and scan the checks in. I plan on using two $600 checks to bypass the $1000 funds availability hold regulation (that is federally enforced, to my understanding). Any potential blow back?
  • Mexicans: do you send money back to mexico or support relatives there? Why do mexican families expect their adult grown children to now support them? Why do mexican families always complain about how hard life in Mexico is but yet have iPhone 5, satellite TV and coach purses? I'm so confused, my friend is always sending them money and they are living better than he is!
  • How to avoid roaming charges when traveling internationally with iphone? I would like to know the most economical way to be able to use my iPhone in the Philippines while I'm there for about four weeks. I will be sending texts both to local and US numbers, and occasionally using it for phone calls (not long, only a minute or two at a time).
