How to fix a broken touch screen on a iPhone 5?

I have an iPhone and I dropped it and the screen sort of popped out and when I popped it back in the touch screen hasn't worked properly since. It works sort of on certain parts of the screen and it starts doing stuff by itself. Would it just need a new screen? It's hard to do anything on the phone it's self as it don't work.

Of course it needs a new screen. Are you even thinking?

You can't be certain that a new screen will fix it, but it's the most likely cause.

On all versions of the iPhone 5 the ribbon connectors to the screen, backlight and digitiser are all quite short with the result that if the screen is pulled further than a right angle up from the motherboard during removal or replacement one or more conductor tracks on the ribbon always tend to fracture. Unfortunately when the screen pops out due to a fall it sometimes also damages the motherboard where the ribbons connect and if that goes the phone is suitable only to be scrapped for parts.

But a new screen can be cheap, especially if you order direct from China on eBay where most also come with the correct tools to complete the job, and there are plenty of excellent video guides on YouTube showing you what to do. As your phone is now a low value older model and is presently a non-functional scrap unit you have little to lose in trying a DIY repair. And even if it fails the experience gained will be useful in future. If you go for a DIY fix then make sure to buy a wrist earthing (US = wrist grounding) strap as well which you wear during the repair. They ensure many static charges you have on your body are safely dissipated as they're very damaging to electronic components. I find the strap to be restrictive so wear mine on my bare ankle instead.
