How to get the most from a car warranty?

As an example of what I'm asking, I'll draw a comparison from the world of mobile phones - if you have a month left on your iphone warranty you take it back to your operator and say "oh the screen flickers after an hour or two of usage" and they send it away for you. 9 times out of ten you get a refurb which is next to new. Result.
I don't want a nearly new car, but my warranty is due to end soon, so what sort of thing could I complain about and get replaced at no cost which would save me a bother in a years time?

you could complain about anything, here is the issue they have had you and your car for sometime and they know how much and how fussy you are so it has to get passed the garage owner who may be on your side. The warranty is with a finance company who will want both photographic evidence that something is wrong with assurances from the motor trader that this item is within the agreed warranty agreement. So engines, gearboxes, water pumps brake units and steering components are the usual suspects covered by a warranty. Not exhaust pipes or silencers and not hoses and tyres as these are subject to wear and tear.
No chance - unless the claim is proven then they will not pay for it, these people aren't daft. There's nothing on a car that can go like that.
