How to know if used iphone is locked or not before buying?

If i'm buying a used iphone 4 8 or 16gb. How to check if its locked or not. What are other things to check. Please guide. I'm android user, and don't have much info related to ios but i need that device for browser testing purposes of my projects

Ask the seller, they should know.

You could use a SIM card from another carrier to check.

If you're buying it online, ask the seller for the IMEI/MEID number. Check it against a black list, look up MEID Check. If it comes clean, then it is good to use.

Another thing, make sure that the iPhone isn't iCloud locked. Ask the seller for the serial number or MEID/IMEI and go to the iCloud website and check it there.

If the seller refuses, then that's a good sign that the phone is stolen.
