How to transfer iTunes library from iPhone to new computer?

I got a new computer as a graduation present, and I want to know how I can transfer my iTunes library from my iPhone onto iTunes to the computer. I can't re-download them onto it, seeing as I didn't buy the songs. 5 stars goes to the person who gives the easiest successful strategy.

  • Will downloading a new iTunes ruin my old iTunes library? I tried connecting my new iPhone 5 to my iTunes but it said that it wouldn't connect because my version of iTunes was really old (from 2010) and I never updated. It said I need to download a new version of iTunes (10.7 onwards) for it to be compatible with my iPhone. But my question is, IF I download a new version of iTunes, will all my old songs on my old iTunes disappear? Because if I had to re-download my whole library, I would seriously cry. That would take the rest of my life.
  • Transfer iTunes library to a different account on the same computer? My mum hates that my siblings and I put all of our music in her iTunes library because we don't have a computer of our own. I just created a new account on her computer (MacBook Pro) for us, but I can't seem to transfer our songs to that account. Every time I try to transfer the songs from my iPhone (same songs as on my mum's iTunes), it says that they've been transferred but the library stays empty. Any suggestions?
